Answers:

I am a patch collector, can we exchange patches?
Due to the number of requests we get each week we are unable to exchange or sell patches to other departments or collectors.

Can I rent out the FD for a part?
At this time, we do not rent out the FD for parties to the public. We are looking into offering this service to the public in the future, however, there are many logistics (insurance, parking, etc.) to work out before we can do this.

Can I get a blue light and sirens if I join?
All members who join are allowed to buy a blue light to be used only when responding to an emergency. The fire department does not supply lights to it's members, nor is one required. No members, other than chiefs, are allowed sirens in their personal vehicles.

I don't work in the Lake Carmel Fire District, can I still become a member?
Yes. In fact, most of our members do not work in our district. The only requirement is that you live in the district.

If I call for an ambulance, will I get a bill in the mail?
The Lake Carmel Fire Department is a fully volunteer organization. You will NOT be billed by us. You will, however, be billed if a paid paramedic rides in the ambulance with you. In some cases, the paramedic is needed, in other less serious cases you may ask that they not come.

What phone number should I call if it is NOT an emergency?
This is a GREAT question. You should only call 911 for real emergencies. If you would like to call the fire house, please use our non-emergency line which can be found by clicking here.

Why are there 2 Lake Carmel Firehouses?
There are two firehouse for everyone's protection. Since our district is so large, if there was an emergency on the far side of our district, it would take a long time to get a fire truck out there. By having two stations, this cuts down the time it takes to get a truck to the scene.

Why do chiefs get their own trucks?
Chiefs get their own truck, supplied by the fire department, for several reasons. The most important reason is so they can get to the scene the quickest. By having an emergency vehicle with them at all times, they may respond as soon as they get the call. This means, for example, if there was a call for a possible structure fire, the chief will be the first on the scene and will be able to call for more equipment right away, or cancel the call because it was a false alarm. By canceling the call right away, he stops other emergency vehicles from responding and lowers the risk of accidents.

Do firemen still ride on the back of the fire trucks?
No. For safety reasons, most departments have stopped this from occurring. Many firemen were injured while riding on the back of a fire truck.
